To use, or not to use, that is the question. It is the question I have been asked many times yet the answer is not always that simple
It really comes down to a couple of factors:
- Your knowledge of the destination
- The itinerary
Your knowledge of the area – If the destination you are going to is someone you have been before or you have a fairly good understanding of the area then you maybe comfortable enough to book everything or even a majority of the things yourself. You may have met friends on previous adventures and they have agreed to have you stay with them and show you around. If this is the case and you are only really needing an airfare then doing it yourself maybe a great option.
The itinerary – Once again if you have a fairly straight forward itinerary then it maybe something you feel comfortable arranging yourself. If, however you have itinerary with multiple flights/destinations/connections/transfers then going through a good travel agent will save you a lot of stress and most probably money as well.
Overall, personally I would still use a travel agent for at least some of my holiday. Travel agents can have a reputation of being more expensive and over charging just to make more commission but this is why I said above to go through a good travel agent. I like the idea that if something goes wrong, I am not on my own. A good travel agent will do what ever they can to help you and for that I don’t mind paying that little bit more.
